TRABANCA > Visit La Fragua

La Fragua (The Forge) is an interpretation center placed in Trabanca. We are talking about a museum dedicated to one of the most ancient and momentous trades in human history, blacksmith´s.

This kind of alquimist dedicated to the wise trade of converting the cold iron into all kind of tools is, unfortunately, in danger of extinction. This is the reason why the town council of Trabanca has decided to express its importance by means of the restoration and the turning of the last existing fragua into a museum.

La fragua was not only a workplace but a stage, where the blacksmith played his role, while getting the fire going with the bellows and heating the iron pieces. Once having done that, the blacksmith cast the pieces hitting them with a mallet and a hammer against an anvil. While all that happened the local farmers chat, at home, about the everyday events.

The blacksmith used just fire, iron and water; three necessary elements for manufacturing and repairing farming implements, tools, horseshoes and all kind of indispensable objetcs and accessories used in everyday life. Nowadays, we can still see how they are manufactured, delighting the wise and experience of the last blacksmith of Trabanca, in La Fragua Interpretation Center.

Visits can be arranged in the Visitors Reception Center of Trabanca, from Monday to Friday.
