The Theme Park on Traditional Constructions of Trabanca is, nowadays, the only museum devoted to traditional architecture in the Nature Reserve Arribes del Duero.
VIRTUAL VISIT
In its more than 10.000 square meters it houses an excellent sample of traditional constructions related to the economic activity and the way of life of the local people. Shepherd´s shacks, pigsties, chiviteros (traditional fold.), pontones (traditional bridges), fountains, stables, potros (device for keeping horses tied while being shoed), forges are just a few examples of the constructions we can delight in this center.
Most of these samples have circular ground plan, usually with no more than 2 meters high and 3 meters in diameter. They were built through an ingenious technique of stone approximation, crowned with a false vault. This amazing construction is carried out without any kind of mortar, just by placing small size stones among the bigger and plane ones.
These traditional constructions were dispersed throughout the Arribes del Duero territory. However they very perfectly integrated into the landscape, among slopes, crags and uneven pieces of land. It had a great importance for sheltering people and animals from cold temperatures, darkness and vermin in the country.
The Theme Park on Traditional Constructions can be visited everyday, from Monday to Sunday from 10 a .m. to 7 p.m.
